Concrete step barriers separating traffic lanes on a modern highway to improve roadway safety.

According to Wikipedia, a concrete step barrier is a reinforced concrete traffic safety barrier commonly installed in roadway medians and along highways as an alternative to traditional steel guardrails. Its distinctive stepped cross-section is designed to redirect errant vehicles back toward the roadway while reducing the risk of vehicle rollover and crossover crashes. The barrier’s shape allows vehicle tires to engage the lower step, helping to stabilize and guide the vehicle during an impact.
